Washington County woman recovering after almost dying in crash

CITRONELLE, Ala. (WKRG) — A woman from Vinegar Bend, Alabama is trying to get her life back together after nearly dying in a serious car crash last year. She says the biggest challenge has been trying to get back to normal.

It’s been more than half a year since Madison Bivens nearly died in a crash that also took the life of a Daphne man. Today, she’s glad to be alive and is taking small steps toward her old life.

Bivens met me in Citronelle near where the crash happened.On Nov. 23, Bivens’ car collided head-on with a truck driven by Robert Nichols of Daphne. An ALEA crash report says Nichols was driving south on the northbound lane of Highway 45 just north of Citronelle when the crash happened.

Nichols was killed, Bivens was nearly crushed by the front end of her vehicle.Today she has difficulty walking, running, and lifting things. And she says she’s still dealing with injuries including motor skills in her left arm and hand. Bivens says being in the hospital for months has given her a new appreciation for life…
