Feds pondering pursuing death penalty for man accused in killing of USPS contractor in Fort Bend

Federal prosecutors this week told a judge they were still considering if they would seek the death penalty against a man accused of shooting his co-worker in the head inside a U.S. Postal Service facility last December.

The shooting victim, Kevin Hines, 35, was just hours into his first shift at his new job at the facility when he died, his widow Bayan Khatib, said Wednesday.

Derrick Lott, 24, was arraigned on federal murder charges on Wednesday morning. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered held in custody until his trial. In two hearings this week, judges advised Lott that if he is found guilty he could face death or a life sentence in prison…
