A proposal to open each public Christian County Library Board of Trustees meeting with an invocation or prayer failed to gain support from a majority of board members Tuesday, July 22. While the practice is known to prompt discussions about the separation of church and state, it is not uncommon to witness at public governmental meetings.
In his proposal, Garrity said the purpose was to encourage deliberation and unity, solemnize the meeting and reflect on common goals, honor the moral and spiritual perspectives of the community, and uphold tradition that promotes civil discourse and public service.
