COLONIE — A 57-year-old prisoner found dying Friday in the medical unit of the Albany County jail died of a heart condition, Sheriff Craig Apple said.
The sheriff said Tuesday that an autopsy revealed Ray Richardson died of ischemic heart disease, a condition where the heart doesn’t get enough blood and oxygen because of a blockage or a narrowing in the arteries.
Richardson was already receiving medical care at the hospital when he was found unresponsive by a nurse and a correction officer at around 9:38 p.m. He died despite receiving CPR and other emergency treatments. Authorities have not disclosed the ailment that prompted his transfer to the medical unit, though Apple had described him as “sickly to begin with.” Nurses and doctors work in the medical unit, which the sheriff said is staffed around the clock…
