Huntsville residents challenge mandatory smart meters at board meeting

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Some Huntsville residents are pushing back against a recent decision by Huntsville Utilities to require smart meter installation — even for customers who previously opted out.

At a board meeting Tuesday morning, members of the group “Stop Smart Meters North Alabama” voiced concerns ranging from health risks to personal choice.

“Back in 2022, I was allowed to opt out of smart meters. So, I don’t have one currently, and I do not desire one for a lot of reasons,” said one resident during public comment…
