Fake traffic citation texts target Ohio drivers again

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio drivers are being urged to stay vigilant as a recurring text message scam resurfaces, targeting residents with fake traffic citation warnings.

The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) issued a renewed warning this summer after reports of the scam began spreading again across the state.

The text warns the recipient that they have a traffic citation left unpaid. It then lists a date that recipients must pay the fee by and the penalties that will go into effect if the “citation” is left unpaid…
