SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Schenectady man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges including first-degree rape. The Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office said Victor Casado, 28, was convicted of the charges by a jury in May.

Casado was accused of sexually assaulting a women while she was asleep. The victim reported the rape to police within two hours of waking up. The DNA on the women matched the Casado’s DNA, said the DA’s Office.
Charges against Casado included first-and-third-degree rape, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, and two counts of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia. On the top count of first-degree rape, Casado was sentenced to 20 years with 25 years probation.

Casado received lesser concurrent sentences on the other charges, said the DA’s Office. An order of protection was also issued for the victim.
“The victim’s immediate reaction to this criminal invasion of her body lent credibility to her account, overcoming the defendant’s spurious claim to the jury that this was consensual,” said District Attorney Robert M. Carney. “It took courage for her to testify and ADA Maria Apruzzese deserves credit for working closely with her to help her through the process.”…
