A former Hanahan police detective is in custody after admitting to stealing from the department to, among other things, build a deck at his residence, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Carlos Reyna Hernandez, 31, was charged with misconduct in office after a SLED investigation revealed he stole multiple items, including tools from the Hanahan’s Police Department on four separate occasions. Hernandez was working as a detective sergeant for the department during thefts on May 25, May 30, June 13 and June 19 in 2025, according to a sworn affidavit.
