NASA’s chief SLS engineer, a UAH grad, wins top federal honor

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A University of Alabama in Huntsville graduate who helped lead the launch of NASA’s most powerful rocket since the Apollo era has received one of the nation’s highest honors for federal service.

Dr. John Blevins, Chief Engineer for NASA’s Space Launch System, was awarded the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal, also known as the Sammie. The award is considered the highest recognition for career federal employees.

“It is an incredible honor to be recognized with a Sammie,” Blevins said. “This honor is truly about the incredible engineering teams that I get to lead across the country that are committed to achieving the ambitious space exploration goals of our great nation.”…
