EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) worked through the night to fill a large sinkhole that opened up on I-195 West during Wednesday evening’s commute.
The sinkhole developed in the center lane near Exit 2 in East Providence. RIDOT told 12 News that a passing motorist alerted them to it around 4:30 p.m.
Traffic was backed up to the state line for hours since two lanes had to be blocked off. The sinkhole was filled by 6 a.m. Thursday, allowing the highway to fully reopen…
