Sheriff threatens to sue commissioners for rejecting camera funding

Lucas County Sheriff Michael Navarre says he will sue after the county commissioners reversed course and decided not to approve a service contract between the sheriff’s office and Flock Safety.

The commissioners on Tuesday reversed a decision from a week ago to approve a $250,000, four-year contract between the sheriff’s office and the security technology company. Sheriff Navarre said Wednesday he will sue over that decision he said was made “out of spite.”

According to the previously approved resolution, Lucas County would pay the company $62,500 per year for its software platform and for 25 Falcon cameras. Flock Group provides Falcon LPR camera systems, which, in conjunction with its proprietary software platform, allow operators to monitor and track license plates and vehicle details throughout its operational zone…
