Meridian City Council rejects raises, but approves increase for mayor

Meridian’s city council members will not receive an increase in pay the next two years, but the mayor will.

The city council voted in a split vote on Tuesday to approve a raise for the mayor but reject a raise for the city council. Both raises were recommended by the Meridian Compensation Committee in a previous council meeting. The city council previously voted in 2023 to forgo raises for 2024 and 2025.

If the raises had been approved by the council, each member would have received a $1,500 increase in 2026 and another $1,500 in 2027. Former council member Brad Hoaglun, who worked on the committee that explored and recommended the raises, said the council member’s raise would equate to an extra $54 per pay period before taxes…
