Former Erie County home site in Alden sold for $1 to become pot-growing facility

ALDEN, N.Y. — It’s an interesting transition — from nursing home to pot-growing facility — but that’s the property development plan we could soon see in the Town of Alden.

Erie County officials feel it is a better deal for taxpayers in the long run even if this transfer transaction amount is only for a dollar. The old Erie County Home on Walden Avenue in Alden was closed in 2005 and sat vacant ever since with perimeter security fencing to keep people away from crumbling buildings dating back to the 1920s.

They were full of asbestos and other potential costly to fix hazards, according to Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro, who is the Republican and Conservative lawmaker representing the 8th District, which covers Alden along with Cheektowaga, Lancaster , and Depew…
