Fleming Island Man Sentenced to Six Years for Illegal Firearm Possession

In a recent sentencing, Jason Stewart Karst II of Fleming Island received six years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. U.S. District Judge Harvey E. Schlesinger handed down the sentence following Karst’s guilty plea in March this year, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Details revealed in court documents indicate that in April 2024, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives responded to a complaint about Karst and an associated individual firing fully automatic firearms at a local shooting range. Furthermore, agents found five silencers, a homemade firearm with a machinegun conversion, and a converted pistol inside a safe at Karst’s residence during a warranted search. In Karst’s vehicle, authorities discovered a white powdery substance, marijuana, and related paraphernalia. This evidence linked back to the initial complaint against Karst.

Given Karst’s history of felony convictions, which includes drug offenses and illegal firearm possession, he is federally prohibited from owning any firearms or ammunition. The firearms and silencers in question were also found to be unregistered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, as mandated by federal law.
