2 electrical fires in 2 days caused by extension cord misuse

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A residential house fire on Gillespie Avenue marked the second electrical fire in just 48 hours caused by overloading a power strip, according to the Knoxville Fire Department.

Someone called 911 at 10:11 a.m. Wednesday morning about a house fire, according to KFD. There was heavy smoke and fire when crews arrived on scene. Firefighters extinguished the fire in just under 20 minutes.
