2 Chapel Hill Residents Facing Felonies For Illegal Mushroom Operation

A pair of Chapel Hill residents are facing multiple felonies after the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office discovered illegal mushrooms at their residence last weekend.

Deputies say they first arrived at the home of 50-year-old Richard Marshall and 35-year-old Cassandra Diane Marshall at 27 Pokeberry Bend Drive in the Briar Chapel neighborhood on July 19 to assist with a medical call. According to a release from the sheriff’s office, deputies observed “glass jars containing suspected psilocybin mushrooms and additional materials consistent with the cultivation of psychedelic mushrooms.”

The sheriff’s office says after a search warrant was obtained and executed, it discovered 131 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, 22 grams of marijuana, evidence of mushroom cultivation and multiple items of drug paraphernalia…
