‘Unusual circumstances’ at south Sacramento fire call prompts police response

A man found dead after intentional fires were set at a South Sacramento apartment complex Thursday died by suicide, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has ruled.

Firefighters responded to the two-story complex on the 1300 block of Florin Road in Z’berg Park about 7:43 a.m., according to Sacramento Fire Department dispatch logs.

Capt. Justin Sylvia, a spokesman for the Fire Department, said personnel discovered two separate fires, both believed to have been intentionally set, and found the man dead in the living room of a unit.
