SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – A local businessman made a major donation to help a Savannah non-profit open a facility to assist people experiencing homelessness amidst a crackdown on urban camping at the city and county levels.
Earlier this year, Chatham County, and shortly after, the City of Savannah passed ordinances banning urban camping, or sleeping outside on public property.
Therefore, the donation from Parker’s Kitchen to Union Mission to build a new day center may keep those who need assistance from running into trouble with the law. “We’re so excited to be continuing to work with union mission to try to help with solutions for homelessness,” Founder of Parker’s Kitchen Greg Parker said. “Homelessness is not a crime. They’re not criminals, and we need to be helping our brothers and sisters in their time of need.”…
