4,500 gallons of nitric acid spill in Hazelwood: Officials

HAZELWOOD, Mo. – A hazmat incident has forced the closure of a part of the James S. McDonnell Boulevard in Hazelwood Friday morning.

According to the Hazelwood Police Department, the road is closed between Lindbergh Boulevard and Byassee Drive, which is directly north of the airport.

Fire Department Chief Dale Luley said crews were called to a nitric acid spill on the property just after 9 a.m. The spill was due to a mechanical failure in a tanker truck, releasing over 4,500 gallons of the hazardous material.
