Springfield PD follows Eugene’s lead with license plate readers amid privacy concerns

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — The Springfield Police Department is following in the steps of Eugene Police with SPD set to install automated license plate readers in Springfield over the coming weeks.

Springfield PD said Wednesday that the cameras will be used as a public safety tool to help deter crime, aid investigations, and enhance community protection.
