A man wanted for burglary in Fresno, California, has been apprehended in Eugene, Oregon, authorities report. The fugitive, 47-year-old Hans Matheus, was taken into custody without incident after being spotted at a local restaurant.
Acting on a tip from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Eugene Police were alerted that Matheus might be in the area. The License Plate Reader system, when put to the test, successfully located Matheus’ vehicle at Elmer’s Restaurant on Valley River Way, according to a statement obtained by the City of Eugene. After setting up surveillance, detectives were able to confirm the suspect’s identity.
Upon Matheus’s exit from the restaurant at 1:37 p.m. on July 22, Eugene Police officers approached and arrested Matheus, who was then booked at the Lane County Jail.
