Man’s death ruled suicide in Springfield house fire, authorities say

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – In an update on a house fire on 36th Street that led to a massive police response, Springfield police have identified the man who died in that fire as 63-year-old Carlos Ortegadena.

The incident occurred on the night of July 3 when Springfield Police and Eugene-Springfield Fire responded to a house fire on the 400 block of 36th Street around 9:40 p.m. Nearby homes were evacuated due to reports of gunshots coming from inside the burning house.
