Sparks’ Victorian Avenue closure aims to boost foot traffic but raises parking concerns

SPARKS, Nev. — Victorian Avenue in Sparks is undergoing a transformation this summer, as the city aims to make the area more pedestrian-friendly. The initiative, called “Summer in the City,” will see the avenue closed to cars from July until mid-October, with the goal of revitalizing the downtown stretch.

Julie Duewel, Communications Manager for the City of Sparks, said, “It’s more to just make it more of a vibrant walking area down here.” She added that the city has planned numerous events, including Hot August Nights, Star-Spangled Sparks, and the River Cook Off, along with various pop-up events almost every weekend.

However, the closure has raised concerns among local businesses and residents, particularly regarding parking. Tyler Morrow, General Manager of The Blind Onion, highlighted the challenges faced by businesses, saying, “Biggest challenge is helping our customers get the takeout orders that they get, because they can’t pull up front anymore and pick up the food directly in the front.”…
