Nearing the finish line, the ‘Texas 4000′ winds through Wasilla

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Approaching the final leg of their journey, “Texas 4000″ participants are once again cycling their way through Alaska on a quest consisting of thousands of grueling miles and sweat-soaked hours.

After over two months, the group of roughly 60 cyclists — college students setting out from the University of Texas in Austin ­— arrived in Wasilla on Thursday, one day before the last push to their final destination of Anchorage. Along the way, the bikers say they made countless memories, met incredible people, rallied support and raised funds for the global fight against cancer.

On Thursday, the well-seasoned crew made the ride over Hatcher Pass and tallied a little over 50 miles for the day, a length that pales in comparison to some of their longer routes, one of which covered over 200 miles in a single day in British Columbia…
