Hundreds of Jacksonville residents braved the summer heat to honor the legacy of Congressman John Lewis. They also stood in solidarity against the growing attacks on our civil and human rights. Calling for the passage of the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2025 and the stoppage of the S.A.V.E. act, notable speakers included local authors, pastors and educators.
Held at A. Philip Randolph Heritage Park, the united front coinciding with “Good Trouble Lives On,” – a nationwide day of peaceful, nonviolent action rooted in the legacy of the civil rights movement and inspired by the late Rep. John Lewis’ call to make “good trouble, necessary trouble.”
Podium discussion hinged on the life and legacy of John Lewis, Souls to the Polls voting mantra, fighting democracy and the importance of citizen engagement voting process. Participants eagerly gathered to celebrate the freedom to vote, protest, and organize, all causes that Rep. Lewis passionately defended throughout his life and career— and to stand united against efforts to criminalize communities, roll back rights and cut vital public programs.
