First Coast Black Nurses are Bridging the Gap in Health Care

The First Coast Black Nurses (FCBNA) recently brought health awareness to the Northside of Jacksonville at the Legends Center, with over 100 attendees. The goal of the symposium was to educate the community, leaving them with a sense of empowerment to take control of their health. Audience participation was encouraged to ensure everyone left with new insights and a greater awareness of their own health.

The symposium featured keynote speakers and a panel that tackled topics ranging from diabetes, maternal health, cardiovascular issues, and more. Community health partners were represented in the vendor section, offering tons of free information and resources for those in attendance. The UF Health mobile van was onsite offering free HIV and STD testing. On-site blood pressure checks were also available upon request, and a vaccine workshop was provided that offered extensive information regarding vaccinations and facts, helping to dispel many myths and rumors about vaccines…
