Radio went ‘goofy,’ truck caught fire after lightning strike

CHARLESTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A truck was struck by lightning and caught fire at the Fort Custer Recreation Area near Augusta on Thursday.

The Galesburg Charleston Fire Department chief told News 8 that a man was in his Ford F150 waiting out the storm in the parking lot when lightning struck the antenna. He said the radio went “goofy” and smoke came out from under the hood.

When the man opened the hood, he found a fire near the battery. The fire department chief said the man was able to step away from the truck before it became engulfed in flames…
