Roanoke County Public Schools joins national initiative to reinvent HS education

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Roanoke County Public Schools is helping shape the future of high school education—after receiving recognition from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

Over 115 years ago, the Carnegie Foundation laid the groundwork for educational standards that would be embodied in high school and post-secondary education.

“The Carnegie-unit, which is one hour of teaching for one day for one year in one subject equals one unit, became the underpinning of high school.
