HOUSTON (KIAH) — As the heat and humidity continue to stifle the Houston area, Reliant and Community Family Centers helped some Houstonians to stay cool by giving away 100 box fans on Friday.
The giveaway in Magnolia Park is part of an effort by Reliant to help those at-risk residents to find a way to deal with a mid-July heat wave that pushed temperatures to over the 100-degree mark.
Maritza Guerrero, President & CEO of Community Family Centers, said the fan giveaway, along with the partnerships like those with Reliant and the Houston Food Bank help them provide vital materials for those less fortunate.
“The most important is we have a food distribution, which is a partnership with the (Houston) Food Bank, to help (residents) with some of the expenses that they currently incur,” she said. “And we have Reliant as a partner today as well, giving out some fans for the heat, which helps some of our community members who may not have air conditioning to be safe in their homes.”…
