BOISE, Idaho — For nearly 40 miles between Boise and Idaho City, Highway 21 offers travelers just one place to stop: Hilltop Station.
After several different owners and businesses, the brothers Tate and Eric McCullough took over the building in 2013 to open both a restaurant and a liquor convenience store.
Due to the declaration of the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway in the 1970s, no new commercial development can be built along the highway, making Hilltop Station the sole permanent commercial stop between the two cities, unless the rules change in the future…
