Good afternoon, Eugene and Springfield,
It’s Lane County Fair, Day 2.
- The fair, of course, is where you go for all things deep-fried. Even coffee. Yes, deep-fried coffee. Reporter Vanessa Salvia explains how that works, as she gives a rundown of fair food favorites — from the original Oregon-born corn dog to the classic elephant ear. Enjoy.
- Speaking of the fair, if you’ve been there, you may have seen the All-Alaskan Racing Pigs show. But did you know it’s a Eugene-based business that’s been running — literally — for 40 years?
- Boosters for the 4J school district are hosting a trivia night Aug. 7 as they work to raise $20,000. Eugene Education Foundation says it will use the money to buy school supplies for 4J students in need — after COVID-era funding 4J used for the purpose ran out.
- Two people were taken to the hospital after a house fire on South 55th Street in Springfield.
- Former University of Oregon football staff member Antonio Alex Parks pleaded guilty Wednesday to three counts of misdemeanor domestic violence menacing, from events that took place in Lane County in 2023 and 2024.
- The Oregon Republican Party is dealing with a fundraising scandal, the Oregon Journalism Project reports. An internal GOP report accuses a district chairman of diverting more than $100,000 raised during a gala in Washington, D.C., after Donald Trump’s inauguration. “What I see, quite frankly, looks like criminal activity,” said a former state GOP chair.
