The Nassau County Police Department’s Electronics Squad Fraud and Forgery Unit announced the arrest of two New Jersey men for an elder scam that happened in Massapequa.
On July 24 at 11:35 a.m., an 80-year-old female victim was contacted by an unknown male claiming to be an FBI agent. She was advised that she would be charged with federal crimes if she did not purchase $125,000 worth of gold and hand it over to the authorities. The victim was also advised that a courier would respond to her residence to retrieve the gold. Detectives were notified of a possible scam when the victim attempted to purchase the gold and responded to her residence to investigate.
Jay Radadiya, 23, of 19 Nelson Street, Jersey City, while wearing a mask, allegedly responded to the victim’s residence to pick up the gold. When detectives attempted to place him in custody, he allegedly began to run away and resisted arrest. He was later arrested without any further incident.
