Sazerac Company, the distilling giant that owns Buffalo Trace Distillery, filed a lawsuit in federal court against unknown defendants accused of impersonating a renowned master distiller on social media to sell counterfeit products.
The lawsuit, filed July 16 in the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky, claims a defendant — currently named as “John Doe(s)” — used Facebook accounts to pose as Master Distiller for Buffalo Trace Distillery Harlen Wheatley and sell the company’s products.
The accounts previously included photos of Wheatley but were later updated to feature photos of Louisville-based attorney Brian Haara, according to the lawsuit. Neither men operated the accounts or consented to be a part of them…
