Alabama attorneys removed from federal case for using fake citations in inmate lawsuit

Attorneys who have been paid millions of dollars by the state of Alabama defending the Department of Corrections were kicked off a federal case for misconduct in an order handed down by a federal judge this week.

The order came after a hearing in which attorneys were questioned by the judge on the use fake legal citations in a federal filing.

Federal judge Anna Manasco has publicly reprimanded attorneys Matthew B. Reeves, William J. Cranford and William R. Lunsford. The three are also to provide the judge’s order to their clients, opposing counsel, and the presiding judge in every pending state or federal case they are the counsel of record.
