News Network —When Laura Garcia, a 27-year-old avid rower and South Florida resident, stepped into the South Fork River near Palm City for a relaxing boat day with her boyfriend and their dog, she never expected her day would end in a whirl of pain, chaos, and fear. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said. While enjoying the water in the shadow of the riverbank, Garcia was suddenly bitten by an 11-foot alligator. The reptile clamped down on her hand and wrist, yanking her beneath the water’s surface in an attack that lasted just seconds but left lasting scars.
