47 New Bedford Market Basket employees suspended, per advocacy organization

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Market Basket confirmed on Friday that it has suspended employees at its New Bedford location as a result of an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

A spokesperson for the Massachusetts-based grocery chain would not say how many employees were suspended or if the suspensions were limited to New Bedford, only saying, “Market Basket employees were suspended as a result of a Homeland Security investigation dating back to 2023 and the employees have an opportunity to be reinstated pending updating their working papers.”

Adrian Ventura of Centro Comunitario de Trabajadores (CCT), a nonprofit organization that advocates for immigrant workers in New Bedford, told 12 News that 47 employees born outside the United States were barred from returning to work…
