San Diego mayor reaffirms police role during federal immigration raids

(FOX 5/KUSI) — Mayor Todd Gloria signed an executive order this week clarifying that San Diego police officers are not participating in federal immigration raids, following confusion over a recent operation in Mission Bay.

Gloria said the order is intended to reassure the public that officers are not working with federal agents during Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions. Police will only be present to ensure public safety and protect the rights of people protesting the raids, he said.

“It’s very important to me that San Diegans know that the San Diego Police Department never participates in immigration enforcement raids,” Gloria said at a news conference. “We follow state laws that prohibit any participation in these federal operations.”…
