The City of Sacramento continues its efforts to address the persistent challenge of homelessness, as evidenced by the latest weekly progress report from the City’s Incident Management Team (IMT). In the span of just one week, from July 14-20, there were 732 calls made to the City’s 311 customer service desk concerning issues related to the unsheltered population, Sacramento City Express reports.
The IMT’s diligent response to these calls led to closing 914 of them. This means that upon inspection by City staff, the issues were either resolved or no longer present. Furthering their outreach efforts, the Department of Community Response managed to enroll 55 people into databases designed to connect them with available shelters and other critical resources. Homelessness in Sacramento is not just a social issue but also presents physical challenges, as the IMT cleaned up a staggering 69,340 pounds of trash. For those experiencing homelessness that the City could reach, tangible support was offered, with 13 individuals being placed into the Roseville Road campus or the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC).
