Furry friends present at groundbreaking for new Springfield animal shelter

Several furry friends assisted both Springfield and Greene County officials in Friday afternoon’s groundbreaking for the city’s new animal shelter.

The shelter at 3303 W. Division St. will replace the one that the city has been using since the 1930s, according to previous News-Leader reporting, and has been in the works for more than 20 years, according to Katie Towns, director of the Springfield-Greene County Health Department.

“Ever since I have been with the health department, this day has been discussed over and over again. But I also just found out that this shelter pre-dates my term at the health department and goes all the way back to discussions that began in 2004,” Towns said. “So we’re so grateful to be here today.”…
