Cooling shelters to remain open in Spartanburg County this week, as region experiences heatwave

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Emergency cooling shelters are open in Spartanburg County as temperatures soared over the weekend.

Sunday was the third day Spartanburg County Emergency Management’s cooling shelter at 701 Saxon Avenue was open. The shelter is a volunteer effort led by the Spartanburg County Community Emergency response team.

The team is deployed during periods of extreme cold and extreme heat to open and operate a shelter for the community. The shelter is open to anyone who needs to beat the heat, cool down with some water and even watch a movie in the A-C…
