Local organization provides free caregiving assistance to families

Around 53 million people in the United States take care of someone who is an older adult or who has an illness or a disability, according to a study by USAging, a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. Florida is one of the states with the largest population of adults 65 and older.

Senior Resource Alliance is a nonprofit organization in Central Florida that helps more than 300,00 older residents and their caregivers every year. The volunteer-based Relief Program focuses on improving the sustainability of home caregiving and supporting families.

The program matches pre-screened and trained volunteers with families unable to afford caregiving assistance, providing them with much-needed respite care and additional resources. Within the past year, Relief has provided over 4,000 hours of respite care to families, with a team of only 20 volunteers…
