Survivor reflects on abusive past, inspiring hope and healing

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — According to the Center for Women’s Health, one in four women and one in seven men will experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime. It’s a problem that one Rochester resident has found to become too common. In hopes of sparking conversation and awareness, she is using the anniversary of her own near-death experience to shine a light on the issue of youth partner violence.

Transforming a traumatic experience into an empowering annual event is what Kimberly Hill has been doing for the past 24 years.

“It always reminds me that I am lucky to be here and I have to tell my story that I was saved for a reason,” Hill said. “And one of those reasons has to be to share the story.”…
