MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — It wasn’t a typical Saturday scene at a church, but it served a serious purpose. In an effort to keep firearms out of the wrong hands, people turned in unwanted guns during a buyback event hosted by CrimeStoppers 215-STOP.
The event — the second of the summer — was held at Faith Full Gospel Baptist Church on Highland Avenue.
Participants received cash in exchange for their firearms: $50 for a rifle or shotgun, $100 for a functioning handgun and $200 for a semi-automatic rifle. Organizers say the program offers a safe and anonymous way to dispose of guns people no longer want or need…
