13-year-old faces manslaughter charge after 8-year-old was fatally shot in the neck

SAN ANTONIO – An eight-year-old boy was fatally shot last week, and now a 13-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter in connection with his death, authorities said.

The victim, Daniel Casares, was struck in the neck by a bullet around 4:30 p.m. on Friday at a home near the intersection of Bob Billa Street and Wales Avenue, the police said. He was later pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the 13-year-old was handling the firearm when the gun went off. He was arrested and charged with manslaughter, and a judge on Monday ordered that he remain in custody. His name has not been released because he is a minor…
