Family continues grandma’s legacy of prayer and peach cobbler at new Grand Rapids restaurant

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — When Gladys Oliver was alive, she served her community with prayer, family values and good food.

Now, her granddaughter Jeannica Garmon is continuing that tradition and honoring her legacy with Gladys’ Grille, a new breakfast and lunch restaurant at 1167 Madison Ave. near Hall Street in Grand Rapids.

“Home cooking like our Grandma used to make,” the restaurant’s signage says. Items on the menu include some of Oliver’s recipes, like her peach cobbler and her fried chicken. And before coming in, she always says a prayer, Garmon said.

Forty Acres Soul Kitchen to close, bring in new concept

Garmon owns the restaurant alongside her daughter, Titiana Oliver. Jessica Karim, Garmon’s mother and Gladys Oliver’s daughter, is working as the restaurant’s HR director.
