Man arrested after I-96 rollover crash in Fruitport Township

FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids man was arrested after a crash where two cars rolled and children were injured, police say.

Around 9:15 a.m. Sunday, officers with the Fruitport Township Police Department were called to a three-vehicle crash on I-96 near Hile Road. Arriving officers found two of the vehicles had rolled over, police say. Witnesses told them a third vehicle kept driving east on I-96.

With a description and license plate number, officers were able to track down the vehicle and stop it near the Ottawa County line. The 25-year-old driver was arrested, police say.

The driver and some people in one of the rolled vehicles, including children, were taken to the hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening. The Fruitport Township Police Department is still investigating, but say excessive speed and narcotics are believed to be factors…
