Man arrested in fatal shooting of Franklin County teacher, coach

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)- Deputies in Pittsylvania County have arrested a man in the shooting death of a Franklin County High School teacher and coach.

According to the Pittsylvania County Captain Gerald Ford, the shooting happened Sunday night in the 1300 block of West Gretna Road in Gretna. The victim has been identified as Tony Gill, 46.

Gill was a special education teacher and head girls’ basketball coach at the school.

James Mattox, 52, was arrested on charges of murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Mattox is being held without bond, according to Ford. It appears the two men knew each other.
