Key questions still unanswered in fatal shooting at Salt Lake ‘No Kings’ protest

SALT LAKE CITY — Kate Brande was among thousands marching at the June ‘No Kings’ protest in Salt Lake City when chanting and cheering turned into terror.

“One minute you’re walking with a big smile on your face,” recalled Brande, 24, of West Jordan. “The next minute, everybody starts freaking out, dispersing, screaming, you know, ‘there’s a gun, there’s a shooter.’”

Someone acting as a “peacekeeper” for the protest saw a man with a rifle and shot three times, accidentally killing bystander Arthur “Afa” Ah Loo, Salt Lake City police said. One bullet injured Arturo Gamboa, who was carrying the rifle and didn’t shoot anyone, but spent six days in jail…
