PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — There is a Heat Advisory for Alamance, Chatham, Iredell, Montgomery, and Rowan Counties until 8 p.m. The heat index may rise to 105 degrees in those counties later this afternoon.
It’s going to be another hot, humid day across the Piedmont, with highs near 90 degrees. In the Triad, the heat index may rise to 102 degrees, which is not hot enough to warrant a Heat Advisory, but plenty hot enough to take extra measures to stay cool and healthy. There is a 50% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Severe weather is not expected, though there may be some cool wind gusts accompanying thunderstorms.
Aside from an early, lingering shower, the evening and overnight periods will be quiet. We are expecting partly cloudy skies with lows in the mid-70s.
Wednesday will be hot again with highs in the lower-90s under partly cloudy skies. There is only a 20% chance of rain.
An approaching cold front is going to bring rain chances back to 40% on Thursday. Highs are going to hover near 90 degrees for one more day, then start to tumble as the cold front drops across the Piedmont Thursday night/Friday morning. Highs will be in the lower-80s Friday with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Over the weekend, we may have some stray showers early on Saturday, but high pressure will be nosing down the east side of the Appalachians, and rain isn’t expected otherwise. Highs are going to stay delightfully cool, in the mid-70s all weekend and the humidity will be much more comfortable…
