A Leesburg man was arrested after officers found a makeshift smoking device in his vehicle and cocaine in the inner seam of his ball cap.
An officer observed 35-year-old Armando Castro-Hernandez driving a black Chevrolet utility vehicle westbound on Myer Avenue at 10:10 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. As he approached the intersection with County Road 468, he did not come to a complete stop before the stop bar.
The officer subsequently stopped the vehicle and asked Castro-Hernandez for his driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance. He provided the first two and continued looking for the last while the officer went back to his patrol vehicle. When more units arrived, he returned to the vehicle for proof of insurance, the report said.
A backup officer began writing a warning for the traffic violation as another asked Castro-Hernandez for consent to search his vehicle. He agreed and stood near a patrol vehicle while officers began the search. They found a socket that seemed to be used as a makeshift smoking device for crack cocaine, as it had burnt residue and Brillo, the report said…
